Books can be children's best friends. Its important to introduce children to the wonderful world of books at an early age. Books are beneficial for many, many reasons; here are just a few;

Books build the vocabulary

Books help to expand the vocabulary of children. As they learn new words, they learn new ways of using those words.

Books expand their horizons

Books open up a new world for children - a world that they would not get to experience first hand. It could be a world of fantasy, or a sci-fi adventure. Books expands their imagination and promotes creativity. Books allow children to hear diverse opinions from people with a completely different view of the world than themselves.

Books promote thinking skills

Books help to enhance critical thinking skills. It allows concepts such as problem solving and conflict resolution to be explored. Books promote thinking skills in areas such as cause and effect. They promote predicting skills and encourages children to theorise and hypothesize.

Books entertain

Books not only entertain children but can totally captivate them.

Books aid social development

Books can assist children to develop empathy to share and become more cooperative. Books can also teach children to care for each other and for our environment.
